Psychotherapy for Apprenticeship Programmes
I offer psychoanalytic psychotherapy for apprenticeship students undertaking clinical training in psychotherapy, counselling, and allied disciplines. I currently work in partnership with Teesside University, offering two years of weekly therapy on their MSc Arts Therapist (Degree Apprenticeship). The full cost of therapy is covered through the Apprenticeship Levy Fund and forms part of the student’s professional training requirements.
My practice offers:
A consistent, confidential space for personal therapeutic process
Relational work rooted in psychoanalytic ideas
Sensitive holding of the dual reality of therapy within professional training
Specialist insight from 20 years of psychosocial and therapeutic work, including senior leadership in education and experience in the development and management of apprenticeships
If you are a training provider seeking support for students through long-term personal therapy, I welcome enquiries for partnership and commissioning.
To book, please get in touch by email in the first instance.
What is Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy?
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy offers a regular, confidential space to speak freely and feel less alone with the complexities of life. The process unfolds at your own pace. There's no need to present a fixed issue or meet specific goals. Instead, you’re invited to explore whatever is on your mind — openly and without judgement. Unlike many other forms of therapy, psychoanalytic work is not shaped by outcome measurements or assessments. It provides a rare freedom to reflect deeply, uncover meaning, and come into relationship with the unseen patterns in our lives. Some people come for a short period to work through a specific difficulty; others remain for months or years. It is a highly individualised journey, led by you.
About Me
I have 20 years of experience in psychosocial and therapeutic work, primarily in senior leadership roles. I have worked one-to-one and in groups with children (aged 2+), young people, adults, and families across the private, public, and third sectors. I have a longstanding interest in work with marginalised groups, with extensive experience — alongside specialist training — in special educational needs and in supporting people who are structurally excluded from mainstream services. Most recently, I have worked in the charity sector and private psychoanalytic psychotherapy practice with adults aged 18+, following five years of specialist postgraduate training. I am UKCP-registered as a Psychoanalyst / Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist.
I'm an active member of the Society for Social and Critical Psychoanalysis, a charity that fosters critical, reflective, and imaginative thinking about psychoanalysis and its contemporary practices. I serve as a Trustee of the SSCP and currently hold the position of Chairperson. I also teach on the SSCP’s 'A Social and Critical Introduction to Psychoanalysis' course, delivering a session on the subject of abjection/social abjection. You can find out more about previous SSCP introductory courses here.
